It is also useful as a screen or windbreak. Its natural environment is in peat swamp sands near the coast, and it will thrive in a similar garden environment, but also adapts well to other soils. May be difficult to sustain in areas with humid summers, preferring a Mediterranean climate. Banksias are phosphorus sensitive, so a good native fertiliser is best when it comes to feeding time.
