This is not your ordinary corn! This amazing black variety defies the odds and thrives in northern regions. Its deep purple hue and super high anthocyanin content make it a standout flour corn from Montana. A northern homage to the legendary Maiz Morado/Kulli corn from Peru, Mountain Morado was carefully selected by Ed Shultz, a dedicated and accomplished open pollinated corn breeder who spent 30 years perfecting this dark purple variety. Originally derived from Painted Mountain corn, this landrace from Montana is ideal for northern gardeners who have always dreamed of growing their own dark purple corn to brew into the popular and healthful corn drink, chicha morada. Short, stocky plants produce an average of 2 ears per plant, with 8 rows of long, slender cobs. Mountain Morado is adaptable to super long summer days and cool nights, and can even mature in shorter day length areas. Not only is it visually striking, it can also be milled into a supremely soft and delicious flour.
