It has a distinct yellowish tinge to the leaves whereas the leaf midribs and leaf sheaths are an intense chocolate brown. The infructescence is a tall bunch with countless narrow, angled fruits that are not good for consumption (except perhaps for monkeys), but very showy all the while. Due to its montane habitat it is somewhat tolerant of cool conditions.
