Musa acuminata is considered one of the ancestors of the fruit banana. It is a highly variable, midsized species with a rather slender pseudostem and narrow, upright leaves. It has many interesting subspecies. This particular one is native to montane forests on Borneo. It has a distinct yellowish tinge to the leaves whereas the leaf midribs and leaf sheaths are an intense chocolate brown. The infructescence is a tall bunch with countless narrow, angled fruits that are not good for consumption (except perhaps for monkeys), but very showy all the while. Due to its montane habitat it is somewhat tolerant of cool conditions.
