Some plants in the Canary Islands are claimed to be over 1000 years old, though modern evaluations seem to indicate that their age is "merely" a few hundred years. These giants are certainly one of the most impressive sights the plant world has to offer, with a huge, gnarled trunk that supports an enormous, umbrella-like crown with hundreds of individual leaf rosettes.
