A spectacular cactus to 2 m tall with flat, sparsely spiny, circular, bluish to purplish segments and large, yellow flowers followed by reddish fruits.
Contains 5 seeds.
Native to southern Arizona, New Mexico and western Texas as well as northern Mexico, it is best adapted to dry, warm temperate climates and is perhaps hardy enough for USDA Zone 7.
