Musa itinerans 'Blue Burmese' is a species of banana in the Musaceae family. Its native range is in southeast Asia in Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. The fruits are a blueish-purple in color and relatively small, around 5-7 inches long. The fruits are used in Thai cuisine. It grows from 5-18 feet tall with suckers that can pop up 5 feet away. It prefers to grow in full sun with rich, moist soil. Zones 8-11

Germination

With a nail file, rub seeds until you break through the outer coat. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Keep temperatures around 75-85F. Germination is in 14-60 days.
